You may wonder what my classes offer that will be different than standard childbirth classes offered through the hospital.Since the classes are independent, I can offer a broad spectrum of information about choices that are available to birthing women. My classes are offered in 2 modules, offering 25 hours of instruction time, which is twice as long as most hospital classes. This time allows us to cover topics more in depth than is done in the standard classes, providing expectant parents with information about the pros and cons of various medications and procedures so that they can make informed decisions. Another benefit of this expanded education is that my clients have a cesarean rate that is significantly lower than the surrounding community.
The primary module is an 8 week Healthy Pregnancy and Birth series that is best started in the middle of second trimester to the beginning of the third trimester. This course covers pregnancy nutrition, exercise, normal labor, complications in labor including cesarean birth, informed decision making, and comfort techniques for labor. Expectant women may choose to take the first two classes of this series in early pregnancy to aid in having a healthy pregnancy.
I also offer a two session class on breastfeeding and newborn care. This is best taken in the third trimester of pregnancy.
To add further flexibility, I also periodically offer classes specifically geared toward Christians, homebirth, and “refresher.” I also can teach private classes for individuals with challenging schedules or who are on bedrest and may need in-home instruction.
Doula
I have received training through Doulas of North America (DONA)® in labor support, and have been attending births as a doula since 2001. I offer a flat fee service and a fee-per-hour service. Contact me for more information.
Other Services
As a Child Passenger Safety Technician I can assist parents in correctly protecting their children as they ride in motor vehicles. I provide FREE carseat checks by appointment to any parents, even those who are not clients.
I periodically offer American Red Cross First Aid and CPR/AED classes.

Hello…I am a client of Kate Fawley’s. I am due August 27th. I was originally with The Midwife’s and Associate’s but transfered after Laurice’s priveledges were removed. We decided to have a home birth and actually I contacted you for some helpful suggestions. My husband and I cannot make it to Kate’s birth ed class. She is only holding one before my due date (unfortunately we decided to go for the homebirth at about 27 weeks) I was wondering if you were going to be holding a homebirth geared class anytime soon?? Also what is the cost and do you accept credit cards?? My husband and I are both out of work right now.
I am looking for pricing on a doula and am hoping you can email me your flat rate fee and hourly fee. I am currently due May 14th and am planning on attempting a vbac at the lehigh valley hospital at cedar crest.
I am due in June 2010 and have been told by my OB (College Heights) that I cannot attempt a VBAC because I’ve had 2 previous C/S’s (1 was failure to progress- which I now question- and the 2nd was scheduled after they “convinced” me I couldn’t deliver vaginally). I REALLY want a chance at VBAC and would love if somebody could point me in the right direction- who to see, what to do, etc. I can’t seem to find info on VBAC after 2 C/S’s. Can anybody help me please?
Hug’s JoAnne!
Unfortunately, you are in a very tough situation. In the past, I would refer people in your situation to Laurice Dunning of The Midwives and Associates, but she is only doing homebirth now, and does not take “primary VBAC.” I know someone who was in your position–going to College Heights with 2 previous cesareans (I don’t know what the first was for, second was for twins) and she was told that she couldn’t have a VBAC not because of her safety, but rather hospital liability. She went to Laurice and had a VBAC. Now she’s pregnant again, and even though she’s had a VBAC, she can’t find a care provider (she is in the Stroudsburg area, and has contacted providers there). Sigh.
If you are looking for a hospital based care provider, my only suggestions would be Women’s Medical Specialties on 15th Street, or Dr. Karounos…but I’m really not sure if either of them are doing VBA2C.
Other than that, home birth would be your only option–which is what the woman above is doing.
